Mekelle University

Mekelle University, situated in Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region of Ethiopia, was officially established in 2000. The university was emerged to address the growing need for higher education in the region and to foster regional development through excellence in academics, research and innovation, and community engagement, positioning itself as a major contributor to Ethiopia’s higher education sector.

Among its community-based projects, Mekelle University has initiated the Capacity Building and Mentorship Program (CBMP) that aims to strengthen and advance the health information system, focusing on improving information revolution pathways to facilitate data-driven decision-making. The University is also working with and creating consortia with Axum University, Adigrat university, and Raya University.
