Situated in the historic city of Gondar, Ethiopia, the University of Gondar was established in 1954, stands as one of the country’s oldest and most esteemed institutions of higher education and serves as a hub for academic excellence and research. With more than ten research centers and hubs of excellence across various fields, the University fosters innovation and cutting-edge scholarship.

Projects and partnerships, the CDHI plays a pivotal role in strengthening the country’s health information systems and policy frameworks.Operating from the main campus in Gondar and a branch in Addis Ababa, the CDHI undertakes a diverse portfolio of operational and implementation science research, significantly impacting healthcare delivery and program outcomes. The University collaborates with different international and regional recognized organizations and stakeholders through the Capacity Building and Mentorship Program (CBMP) as an umbrella initiative. The University is also working with and creating consortia with five local universities (Assosa, Debre Birhan, Debre Markos, Wollo and Semera) and health science colleges.

The center has been involved in 27 projects, with 11 active projects currently working with the University under the CBMP platform. The University of Gondar’s Capacity Building and Mentorship Program (CBMP) extends its support to a total of 24 woredas, including 16 woredas within the Amhara region, 4 woredas within the Benishangul-Gumuz region, and 4 woredas within the Afar region. The project has achieved significant milestones in enhancing Health Information Systems (HIS) performance, leading to improved data analytics, evidence synthesis, data quality, data use practices, and overall HIS performance. A national-level interoperability lab and DHIS2 academy have been established as Centers of Excellence (COE).
