Dr. Muluemebet Abera

Dr. Muluemebet Abera is a Professor of public Health with Reproductive Health speciality and has more than 30 years of experience in teaching research and delivering care in the Ethiopia health system. Before joining Jimma University, she served as the coordinator of maternal and child health programs at Assela Hospital for 7 years

Prof. Muluemebet’s research interest focusing on public health and clinical research with special focus on reproductive health, maternal and child health, adolescent health, and health system service quality and health information systems.

She has a broad background in public health with specific training and expertise in longitudinal and survey research and secondary data analysis on maternal and child health as well as health system Prof. Muluemebet served as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on several nationally and internationally funded research projects.

Served as coordinator of the two major projects supported by Norwegian government through NORAD these are a) Strategic and Collaborative development in Ethiopia and Africa (SACADE) mainly focusing on capacity building of academic staff for better leaning outcomes a total of 600 academic staff and students took training on different topics and about 12 of which 6 female got PhD training opportunity.

Additionally 115 female academician who were in leadership position in the different universities took JEWEL training as capacity building activity. B) Exceeding Learning through Strategic Mobility and Academic Partnership (EXCEL SMART); mainly providing mobility support for PhD students.

Recently completed project; National immunization program assessment leading the research undertaking in Oromia, Southwest Ethiopia and Gambella regions. she served as a member of the HaSet Maternal and Child Health Research Program Scientific Advisory Group. In this role, she contribute to the HaSet steering committee, develop priority research questions for the HaSet fellows. Currently she is serving as the Chairperson of the National Research Advisory Council for Family Planning Program at the Ministry of Health. Board Memeber of Ethiopian public Health Association and Vice chair for the HABTech Solutions Plc board of directors.
