Among its community-based projects, Mekelle University has initiated the Capacity Building and Mentorship Program (CBMP) that aims to strengthen and advance the health information system, focusing on improving information revolution pathways to facilitate data-driven decision-making. The University is also working with and creating consortia with Axum University, Adigrat university, and Raya University.
In partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), DUP, and the Tigray and Afar regional health bureaus, Mekelle University has implemented CBMP project initiatives in five woredas and five general or referral hospitals in the Tigray and Afar regions with the goal of achieving information revolution objectives. Currently, Mekelle University is actively implementing CBMP initiatives in six supported woredas, encompassing 69 health institutions (6 Woreda Health Offices(WoHOs), 5 hospitals including two specialized hospitals, 29 health centers, and 29 health posts), with plans to scale up to eight woredas.
