Haramaya University’s Capacity Building and Mentorship Project (CBMP) is a remarkable initiative that aims to strengthen the health management information system (HMIS) and digital health systems by focusing on information revolution in the Somali and Harar regions, as well as the Dire Dawa city administration. Established as a center of excellence in Electronic Medical Records (EMR), the project has brought together a consortium of universities, including Jijiga University, Dire Dawa University, and Harar Health Science Colleges, to collaborate and share best practices. The project has targeted a total of 202 health institutions across the three regions.
In Dire Dawa city administration, the project supports 2 general hospitals, 10 Health Centers and 20 Health Posts. In the Harar region, the project supports 1 University Hospital, 1 General Hospital, 8 Woreda health offices, 9 Health Centers, and 36 Health Posts. In the Somali region, the project supports 4 General Hospitals, 5 Woreda health offices, 15 Health Centers, and 94 Health Posts. Through this comprehensive support and mentorship, Haramaya University’s CBMP has become a beacon of excellence, driving the transformation of the healthcare sector and empowering health workers to practice evidence-based decision-making for sustainable health services.
